Nature and Landscape
At Étang de l’Abîme, there is remarkable bog flora, including round-leaved sundew, marsh rosemary, rushes and sphagnum mosses. The peat bogs of Abîme and Grande Charme are visited by woodland and mountain birds and are home to specialised bog insects.
Étang des Rubiades is designated as a type 1 continental ZNIEFF covering an area of 1.22 hectares. It is also designated as a bird protection area under the European Birds Directive. Pierre Kerlinkin is a large block of stone at an altitude of 745 metres.
Culture and History
A pilgrimage took place at Fontaine Saint-Augustin on the last Sunday in August from 1978 onwards, as long as the health of the priest responsible allowed it. The granite business in Cleurie run by Roland Martinoli remained in operation until 1997.
Croix Jacquotte is considered the oldest monument in Cleurie erected as an expression of popular piety; it was built a few years before 1671. On Grande Charme, a path passes Étang de l’Abîme and the ruins of three former farms: Maison Jean Picot, Ferme Capat and the farm of the Tisserand family.
Pierre Kerlinkin features cup marks and grooves, some of which were carved by human hands. In the immediate vicinity is the 18th-century Sainte-Sabine Chapel, built on the site of a 12th-century oratory. A pilgrimage on the last Saturday in August is also part of the tradition surrounding Sainte-Sabine in the immediate vicinity.
Ferme La Charme Saint Romary is one of the oldest farms in Cleurie; its use as a working farm has been documented since 1680.
Trails and Activities
The Sainte-Sabine circular trail is listed as 10 kilometres long, with 200 metres of elevation gain and a duration of three hours; it is classified as moderately difficult. In the immediate vicinity, the Sainte-Sabine circular trail, which begins in Cleurie, leads to Pierre Kerlinkin and Sainte-Sabine Chapel.
To drive to the Sainte-Sabine circular trail, travel from Vagney to Cleurie town hall and continue towards Col du Singe until reaching a granite marker pointing to Hêtre de la Vierge.
The Cleurie soapbox racing track is 1.2 kilometres long and has five bends. It regularly hosts regional and occasionally national championships, including an event held in 2006.
