Nature

The Étang de Hanau is located in the heart of the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park and covers 18 hectares. From May to September, carnivorous plants, various blueberry plants and dragonflies can be observed in the peat bog of the Étang de Hanau.

The Étang de Lieschbach is protected and designated as a nature reserve. A small wooden footbridge at the Étang de Lieschbach allows visitors to observe dragonflies close to the water.

Hiking

There is a botanical educational trail and numerous signposted hiking trails at the Étang de Hanau. The peat bog educational trail at the Étang de Hanau runs over footbridges and is equipped with information boards about the rarity and sensitivity of this habitat.

The Étang de Lieschbach can be reached on foot from the Étang de Hanau in 35 minutes via the trail marked with a blue cross towards Falkenstein Castle.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes on the D36 in Philippsbourg dates from 1905. Falkenstein Castle was built in the 12th century on the orders of the Count of Lutzelbourg.

The castle offers an impressive view of the Erbsenthal Valley and the Étang de Hanau.
