The Porte des Allemands is the only surviving medieval city gate in Metz that is still standing. In the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne, the nave reaches a height of 41.41 metres. The cathedral has around 6,500 m² of stained-glass windows dating from the 13th to the 20th century.
The roof of the Centre Pompidou-Metz reaches 77 metres at its highest point and is woven from enormous beams. Covering 6,000 m² of exhibition space, the Musée de La Cour d'Or presents Gallo-Roman treasures, medieval painted ceilings and paintings from the École de Metz.

The Musée de La Cour d'Or can be reached on foot from Metz railway station in 20 minutes; bus routes 3 and 83 also run directly to the Place d'Armes stop. The Pavillon de la Biodiversité is a 360 m² exhibition space. Visitors can discover biodiversity as well as collections of preserved animals, herbaria and minerals.
