Culture
The Saint-Michel Church was rebuilt from 1736 onwards; its nave and choir were completed in 1737. The bell tower was built from 1739 onwards, and its spire was completed in 1756. The municipality expressly requested the use of the neo-Gothic style for Saint-Michel Church.
The former synagogue is protected as a historic monument. The Holy Ark was listed as a protected monument on 18 May 2009, and the synagogue in its entirety on 28 March 2012. It is the last testimony to a long Jewish presence in the canton of Vic-sur-Seille. Designed by the architect Ferdinand Boudot, it was built between 1868 and 1872 and inaugurated in 1872.
The former Château de Maizières-lès-Vic includes a square residential building covered with rare beaver-tail shingles. The residential building appears to date from the early 18th century and was recently restored to its original condition. At the Hellocourt estate, industrially manufactured cast iron and bricks, the decorative design and the functional layout form an exceptional ensemble. The present buildings were constructed between 1890 and 1894 and are believed to be an early work by the Karlsruhe architect Hermann Billing (1867–1946).
Nature
Maizières-lès-Vic has four type 1 ZNIEFF areas and one type 2 ZNIEFF area. The type 1 ZNIEFF area “Étang de Brihoff à Maizières-lès-Vic” covers 10 hectares. The Étang de Laixière has been designated as a reservoir of biodiversity to be preserved.
The ponds of Laixière and Brihoff are home to Western marsh harriers, purple herons, numerous amphibians and bats, remarkable flora and populations of the mollusc species Vertigo de Moulin. This species is listed in Annex II of the Habitats Directive.
Waterways and routes
Port Sainte-Marie is a stopping point on the Canal de la Marne au Rhin where pleasure boaters can moor. Within the territory of Maizières-lès-Vic, near Port-Sainte-Marie, lock no. 10 is located on the Canal de la Marne au Rhin.
The Véloroute V52 – Voie verte du Pays du Saulnois runs for 10 km between Lagarde and Port Sainte-Marie in Maizières-lès-Vic and is suitable for running, walking, cycling and roller skating. In Meurthe-et-Moselle, the Véloroute V52 continues; it includes sections of the V52 Paris–Strasbourg route and the Paris–Prague Pan-European cycle route.
