Nature

The Étang de Haspelschiedt lies in the center of the small village and is surrounded by extensive green forests. Fishing is possible at the Étang de pêche de Haspelschiedt: half-day permits are sold directly at the pond from a vending machine for €6 , while weekly and annual permits are available at the campsite reception.

Hiking

The circular hike “Remarkable trees in Haspelschiedt” is 13.6 km long, has a moderate difficulty level, and takes approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes. It is part of the “Paths of Excellence” trail network in the Pays de Bitche, route number 10, and is marked with a red disc bearing the green “Sentiers d’excellence” badge. The start and finish are at the car park at the intersection with Rue de Neudoerfel, near the laundry facilities.

The “Colorado du Bitcherland” is a technical route that begins in Haspelschiedt in the Vosges du Nord Regional Nature Park.

Water

The Étang de Haspelschiedt has a well-equipped inflatable water play structure for family outings and leisure activities with friends. Swimming in the Étang de Haspelschiedt is supervised in July and August. The list published by ARS Grand Est in 2025 classifies the bathing water quality at the Étang d’Haspelschiedt as excellent.

Culture

The Saint-Nicolas parish church was rebuilt from 1869 to 1874 according to plans by Desgranges, an architect from Sarreguemines. It replaced an older chapel in the cemetery and was restored from 1947 to 1953. Its architecture includes a basilical floor plan, a transept integrated into the building, a polygonal choir termination, and a bell tower projecting from the façade.

The Chapelle Saint-Wendelin is located on Chemin d’Hanviller in Haspelschiedt. It was rebuilt in the third quarter of the 20th century, probably on the site of an older chapel. At the edge of the village’s main road stands the wayside cross Croix Keller, locally also known as Kreuz Keller; it was erected in 1758 and restored in 1863.

In the Haspelschiedt forest lies the prehistoric Neolithic polishing stone of Haspelschiedt, known as “Wildmannsfeld.” It dates from the Neolithic period between 4000 and 2000 BC and bears hundreds of grooves. In December 2019, the polishing stone collapsed and is currently inaccessible for safety reasons.
