Culture and History
The Château de Gendersberg is partially protected as a historic monument; in accordance with the decree of 27 June 1984, this protection covers the façades and roofs. The Château de Gentersberg was built for Jean Frédéric Dithmar in the second quarter of the 18th century. It replaced a castle mentioned in the 15th century, which was destroyed at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century.
The parish church of L'Exaltation-de-la-Sainte-Croix is also part of the local history. It was built after 1787 to replace a chapel that had become too small and dilapidated, was destroyed during the war from 1939 to 1945, and was completely rebuilt in 1960. The route “Autour des cascades et de l'ossuaire de Schorbach” is route no. 12 among the excellent trails of the Pays de Bitche. It is an easy, 12 km circular hike lasting 3 hours and 30 minutes, marked by the Club Vosgien, and leads through Schorbach, Hanviller and Bitche.
The Neubach waterfall consists of small cascades flowing down from the top of the sandstone cliffs. There is also a stone-carved trough at the source of the Neubach.
