Nature

Le Lion Couronné is a 7.1-kilometre moderate circular hiking trail with a stated duration of two hours. At the large cross in the Liesberg district, the circular trail offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Le Lion Couronné passes through a forest with oak, beech and Scots pine trees; in summer, the trees provide shade, while in autumn they create orange colouring. After the forest, the circular trail returns to Hambach via a cycle path. Le Lion Couronné begins on Rue de la Poste next to Église Saint-Hubert; there is a car park near the church.

Culture

The foundation stone of Hambach's present-day church, dedicated to Saint Hubert, was laid on 29 July 1792. The church was extended in 1866–1867 by lengthening the nave, building a transept and constructing a new choir. Its tower was built in 1859 and raised in 1949.

The cross on Rue de la Fontaine in Hambach dates from 1823. The cross on Rue Saint-Hubert in Hambach dates from 1861.

The nave of Église Saint-Vit in Roth was rebuilt in 1721. Its choir contains a richly decorated high altar from the 18th century, which comes from the church in Hambach. Elements of the former fortified cemetery have been preserved on the surrounding wall of Église Saint-Vit. The church's furnishings were added to the list of historic monuments in 1977.

History

The historic Oligmiel oil mill in Hambach produced walnut oil by having a horse drive a millstone that crushed walnut kernels.
