History and Architecture
The Abbey of Gorze was founded in 749 by Chrodegang, the Bishop of Metz. It became an important centre of liturgical singing, later known as Gregorian chant. The Church of Saint-Étienne is considered the oldest Gothic building in Lorraine; its architecture combines Gothic and Romanesque styles. The Chapelle Saint-Clément in Gorze was built between 1596 and 1603; in 1607, a cross known as the Croix aux Loups was erected there. Construction of the Palais abbatial de Gorze began in 1696. Among other features, it contains two staircases decorated with bas-reliefs.
When planning a trip to Gorze, choosing to rent a holiday apartment may also be a consideration.
