Bayon was built on the Côte Lebel, a terrace overlooking the confluence of the Moselle and Euron rivers. The Saint-Martin Church, the national necropolis and the Étangs de la Saussaie are among the area's defining features.
Culture and History
The Saint-Martin Church was built between 1881 and 1883 in the Neo-Renaissance style and consecrated in 1884. It was designed by the architect GIGOUT. The church as a whole has been listed as a French historic monument by decree of 28 March 2012.
Inside Saint-Martin Church are a Pietà and three 15th-century statues, as well as a burial scene from the early 16th century. These religious objects are listed in the register of historic monuments.
The Bayon National Necropolis mainly contains the remains of soldiers who died as a result of war injuries or illnesses at Supplementary Hospital No. 2 in the local hospice run by the Sisters of Saint-Charles. A total of 169 soldiers who died for France were buried in the necropolis, 100 in individual graves and 69 in ossuaries. The Bayon municipal war memorial stands within this cemetery. The national necropolis can be visited independently all year round.

Water and Landscape
Part of the Étangs de la Saussaie site between the ponds and the Moselle has been located within the Moselle Sauvage Regional Nature Reserve since 2011. The municipal Étangs de la Saussaie are freely accessible; swimming is prohibited.
