Pont-à-Mousson reveals its historic character particularly clearly in two prominent places: the Abbaye des Prémontrés has been classified as a historic monument since 1919, while the Place Duroc is considered a triangular square with Renaissance arcades that is unique in Europe.
Culture
Both self-guided visits and guided tours are possible at the Abbaye des Prémontrés. The abbey’s Jardin de la Moselle offers shade beneath lime trees and panoramic views of Pont-à-Mousson.
The Church of Saint-Martin was consecrated on 17 September 1335 and houses the sculpture “La Mise au tombeau”. Buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries stand around the Place Duroc.
The Musée Au fil du Papier is located in the centre of Pont-à-Mousson in a Renaissance town house. It presents a collection of papier-mâché objects ranging from tobacco boxes to a salon belonging to Queen Victoria.
