Culture and History

One of the defining historical sites is a 17th-century monastery that now serves as the town hall. The Fontaine des Ormes washhouse dates from 1950. Saint Martin Church houses a chalice donated by Napoleon III. Several cobblestone streets have been preserved in Dommartemont’s historic center.

Sainte Geneviève Hill, which belongs to Dommartemont and Essey-lès-Nancy, has been a pilgrimage site for centuries. It is one of the oldest inhabited places in the agglomeration; settlement there has been documented since the Neolithic period. A Gallic settlement initially developed on the hill, followed later by an oppidum. Dommartemont’s community vineyard was replanted in 2003 over an area of 3,000 m². The Coteau Saint-Martin vineyard in Dommartemont has been cultivated for more than twenty years.

Part of the Malzéville Plateau in the Dommartemont area lies within zones classified as areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest. Every year, the Pixerécourt agricultural high school’s sheep transhumance takes place on the Plateau de Malzéville; it contributes to maintaining the pastoral landscape.
