Culture and History

The Church of Saint George in Bernécourt was rebuilt in the Neo-Romanesque style. A chalice and a paten are associated with the church sacristy. The chalice bears the inscription “CHARITAS” and the year 1755; the chalice and the paten have been classified as protected movable cultural heritage since 22 July 1983.

The washhouse in Bernécourt is made of white limestone. It was badly damaged in September 1914 and repaired true to the original during reconstruction. The washhouse was renovated in 2009; the zinc roof was replaced and the plastered surfaces were renewed. It is located in the heart of the village.

A former military cemetery was located on the D904 between Bernicourt and Grosrouvres. It was the resting place of French soldiers who died in the First World War.

Agriculture and Culinary Delights

The Domaine de Saturnin in Bernécourt is a farm restaurant offering meals and farm-style snacks. The associated farm shop offers poultry, ducks, geese and products made from them.

In the Area Around Mamey

The hamlet of St Jacques in Mamey is 7 km from Bernécourt. It is located at a crossroads of forest paths leading to Mamey, St Jean, Lironville and Limey, as well as to the Pont des Quatre Vaux bridge and onward to Regniéville. On a hill behind it, the ruins of a former monastery that stood along the Ways of St James have been preserved.

Also near Mamey, 7 km from Bernécourt, is the Gouffre de la Grimo-Santé. It is a very deep sinkhole in a forest between Mamey and St Jean, popular with caving enthusiasts.
