Culture and History
The former school building houses a historic classroom reconstructed in 2017 and a period house reconstructed in 2022. The museum's exhibitions can be viewed from June to the end of September by request, as well as on Thursdays in July and August from 5 p.m. during the regional producers' markets.
On 14 July 1944, hundreds of parachutes and tonnes of weapons and ammunition were dropped by Allied aircraft at the Chansèves site as part of Operation Cadillac, to support the region's Maquisards.
Hiking and Trails
The Sentier de la Résistance near Chansèves is an easy trail approximately 4 km long, with a walking time of 1 to 1¼ hours. The starting point is the Chansèves memorial stele.
The 6.5 km Combejean circular trail begins at Port de Vaurs in Monceaux-sur-Dordogne; parking is available there along the D12. The trail is marked in yellow and included in the PDIPR trail network. It leads from the Dordogne Valley along the Combejean stream to waterfalls in a wild setting, and then continues with views over the Dordogne.
The “Les Amphores” trail follows the tracks of an ancient trade route from the Mediterranean to Brittany. It climbs via winding paths before descending to the Malefarge stream.
Water and Landscape
The 18 km “La Sauvage” canoeing route passes through the wildest section of Corrèze-Dordogne, with wooded hills and class 2 rapids.
The “La Sauvage” base is located in the hamlet of Saulières. After the canoe trip, a return shuttle takes participants back to their vehicle. From Monceaux-sur-Dordogne, the “La Sauvage” canoe trip offers an 18 km descent to Beaulieu.
