Nature

The Chavanon flows below the former railway line; its entire course is designated as a Natura 2000 site.

The circular hiking trail The Hermits’ Trail is 10.6 km long, takes around 3.5 hours and starts and finishes at the Aire de Sully in Merlines. It follows the Chavanon and passes through wooded areas.

The hiking trail The Roman Bridge (shortcut) offers several views of the Puy de Sancy, the highest volcano in mainland France.

Culture

The Eglise paroissiale Saint-Blaise, Sainte-Madeleine is a parish church that was probably built in the 15th century. It was extensively restored by Jules Rouffiat between 1880 and 1883.

Getting Around

The cycling loop The Chavanon Valley is an easy 14.5 km route with a stated duration of around one hour. It runs through a wooded natural landscape and uses a forest track that replaces the former Béziers–Paris railway line.

The permanent orienteering course Permanent Orienteering Site at Etang de l'Abeille offers four orienteering courses: green over 3 km, blue over 4.5 km, red over 5 km and black over 6.5 km.

Regional buses on route P46 to Clermont-Ferrand, Le Mont-Dore and Ussel depart from Gare de Merlines station (Eygurande-Merlines).
