Vebron: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A significant cultural event in Vébron is the International Film Festival: it has taken place every year since 1988 and includes an official competition with more than 12 hours of film screenings from around the world. Some film evenings are held outdoors and followed by conferences and debates.

Geographical location

Vébron lies south of Florac between the Gorges du Tarn and the Gorges de Jonte, and between Mont-Aigoual and Mont-Lozère. To the west, the municipality extends across the Causse Méjean plateau, and to the east across the Cévennes; the main villages are located in the Tarnon Valley.

Landscape

The Les corniches de l'Hospitalet circular trail is an easy, two-hour, 4.3-kilometre loop that passes through Vébron. The route offers remarkable views over the Tarnon Valley and the Causse Méjean and runs through the core area of Cévennes National Park.

Le Castelas is a nature-oriented viewpoint overlooking the Cévennes on the cliffs of the Causse Méjean. The viewpoint towers 300 metres above the village of Les Vanels and can be reached on foot via a farm track.

The Broussous hiking trail follows the banks of the Tarnon and offers an impressive view of the cliffs of the Causse Méjean from the Can de l’Hospitalet plateau. It begins in the village square of Vébron and returns via the old bridge of Vébron. As a circular hiking trail, Broussous takes three and a half hours and includes 330 metres of ascent and descent each. A small gorge forms beneath the old bridge of Vébron, where you can cool off.

Culture

The Church of Saint-Pierre de Vébron dates from the 12th or 13th century. The deconsecrated church building of Saint-Pierre is intended to be dedicated to the village’s cultural life. In the 14th century, the priory of Vébron was dependent on the Sainte-Enimie monastery.

The Temple de Vébron features a coffered ceiling, finely crafted woodwork, monumental pulpits, and elaborately crafted family pews with backrests. During Vébron’s video festival, held in the third week of July, the temple is used as an event hall; admission is free.

Château de Châteauroux stands on a shale spur and overlooks the valley.

History

The Catholic de Bernis family had Château de Salgas rebuilt in the 18th century. The history of Château de Salgas is connected with Baron François Pelet de Salgas and the Camisard uprising.
