Culture
The Porte de Soubeyran is part of Marvejols’ medieval fortification system; its lower structures date back to the town’s fortification in 1361. Historically, it formed the northern entrance to Marvejols; a road leading from Auvergne through Gévaudan to Mediterranean Languedoc passed through it. Since 23 December 1925, the Porte de Soubeyran has been listed as a historic monument.
The Collégiale Notre-Dame de la Carce dates back to an initial church in Marvejols from the late 12th century and became a collegiate church in 1310. Marvejols also preserves numerous factories and workshops from the heyday of the wool industry.
The Musée des Deux Albert is housed in the remains of a former neo-Gothic chapel belonging to the hospital and hospice of Marvejols. It presents traditional wool processing, including carding and hand-spindle spinning as well as spinning with various spinning wheels. Visitors to the museum can also discover and learn about the work of a typographic printing workshop.
Events
The Fête votive takes place every year in Marvejols on the weekend around 15 August and is organised by the town and its partners. Every September, Marvejols hosts the Internationales de la guitare. Les Estivales de Marvejols is a series of free events and performances held in summer.
The Marvejols-Mende event starts at the Esplanade in Marvejols and connects Marvejols and Mende along a 22.4-kilometre route.
