Le Massegros: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Le Massegros lies in the heart of the Causse de Sauveterre. At the entrance to the village stands the sculpture “Lou Pastre” (“The Shepherd”), also known as Gédéon. Those who choose Le Massegros as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and History

The Ferme du Massegros is listed as a historic monument; it was registered on 30 May 1996. The farm, parts of which date back to the 17th century, has an enclosed courtyard and a gallery in the Caussenard style.

The Church of Saint Martin was built between 1912 and 1914. It can be visited independently and without a guide at any time; the average visit lasts 30 minutes. Its square bell tower is topped by a statue of Saint Privat, which is visible from a distance.

The route “L'Architecture caussenarde sur le Sauveterre” introduces visitors to Caussenard farmhouses, jasses, cazelles and lavognes. The Atelier de la Mare Basse provides insights into processing wool into felt and into the lost-wax technique used to create unique silver jewellery.

Nature

Hiking is one of the possible activities in nature in Le Massegros. The village is also located in the immediate vicinity of the Gorges du Tarn.

Regional Products and Crafts

La Sauvagine is an artisanal food producer. It makes jams, dried fruit, syrups, seasonings and savoury biscuits inspired by the region’s cheeses.

In July and August, the Confiturerie-Biscuiterie La Sauvagine offers a free one-hour guided tour with tasting every Thursday at 10:30 a.m., subject to prior reservation.
