Hiking

The La Tieule hiking trail runs above the Lot Valley at an altitude of around 900 metres on the Causse de Sauveterre. Along the way, it showcases the architecture typical of the Causses, with stone houses and roofs made of local slate. The landscape it explores has been shaped by shepherds and farmers over the centuries.

The La Tieule circular hiking trail takes around three hours. The La Tieule hiking trail can be reached via the A75, the D167 or the D67; parking is available in front of the town hall. The 16.5-km race is part of the Trail-Challenge des Aubrac aux Gorges du Tarn.

Nature

The Natura 2000 site Vallon de l’Urugne also extends across La Tieule. It comprises forests interspersed with open agricultural land, as well as hedgerows and wooded banks along streams.

Culture and History

Saint-Barthélemy Church houses a 17th-century Pietà, which is listed as a Monument historique. The church also contains a monumental altarpiece made of painted wood, featuring a large central depiction of the Crucifixion. The new Saint-Barthélemy Church was built in 1818 in connection with the establishment of the parish.

The former monastery of the Ecuries de Sauveterre is considered typical of the Causses. Today's Ecuries de Sauveterre in La Tieule was formerly referred to as a “monastère”. The hiking trail Les sentiers d’Auxillac passes Merovingian graves near the hamlet of La Tieule, which are also known as “Jewish graves”.
