Florac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Since 1975, the Château de Florac has been home to the headquarters of the Cévennes National Park. The present château was completely rebuilt in 1652.

Culture

The church in Florac has a façade reminiscent of a Greek temple, with two Doric columns and a pediment. The present-day temple in Florac was inaugurated in 1833.

In the centre of Florac, the Maison du site UNESCO Causses et Cévennes offers a free, family-friendly scenography about Mediterranean agropastoralism and the UNESCO designation. The Maison du Tourisme et du Parc national des Cévennes combines an exhibition on the biodiversity of the Cévennes National Park, ongoing environmental films, and a shop selling local products.

Atelier Tuffery was founded in 1892. Guided tours are available year-round in the workshop and boutique.

Above Florac, the historic Draille de la Margeride passes through a landscape with a long history of use: for thousands of years, transhumant herds have used this route to reach their summer pastures.

Nature

The Source du Pêcher spring rises from a large rocky scree field and flows through the centre of Florac. Otters and European beavers can be found along the Tarnon in Florac.

The protection of the riverbank vegetation along the Tarnon in Florac, with its rare habitats, is the basis for its classification as a Natura 2000 site of European interest.

Outdoor Activities

The Gralhon circular hiking trail starts in Florac, is 8.3012 km long, easy, and takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes; it offers panoramas of Florac and the Tarnon Valley. The Les Couronnes trail runs below the Méjean Plateau. From there, you can overlook the Florac Valley and see the Cévennes and Mont Lozère on the horizon.

La Cévenole is a family-friendly, secured greenway running for 8 km between Florac and Saint-Julien d’Arpaon. The route is used for hiking and mountain biking. The Via ferrata de Florac begins at Rochefort in a narrow canyon. It offers both an easier route and a more challenging route that climbs the Ron de Picar.
