Culture
The museum at the Pont du Gard uses immersive exhibits to explain the importance of water in everyday Roman life and the construction of the ancient aqueduct of Nîmes. The Church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens preserves Romanesque architectural elements from the 11th century, including the base of the bell tower and the wall behind the altar. The Tour de l’Horloge, which is still visible today, bears witness to the former organisation of Vers-Pont-du-Gard.
Nature and Landscape
Mémoires de Garrigue is a freely accessible open-air discovery trail on the left bank of the Pont du Gard site. The area covers 15 hectares of restored plots that were formerly used for agriculture, as well as a 1.4-kilometre landscape trail.
Vers-Pont-du-Gard is bordered by the Gardon to the south and by limestone hills to the north. Some capitelles in the village have been preserved or restored and form a valuable rural heritage that is inseparably connected with the landscapes of the municipality.
Paths and Discoveries
The municipal circular route “En route vers les carrières et les capitelles” takes hikers through stone and garrigue landscapes to former extraction sites, dry-stone walls and several capitelles.
