Culture

The cave coopérative de Souvignargues was built in 1939 as part of a series of buildings designed by the architect Henri Floutier. It has a natural stone façade and a slightly curved gable, flanked on both sides by five stepped projections. Souvignargues also has a 19th-century temple.

A longer option is the “Balade autour d’une circulade”: this circular walk is 11.74 kilometres long and takes 3 hours and 30 minutes. It passes through fields and garrigue and by the remains, runs through the picturesque hamlet of Saint-Étienne-d’Escattes and offers panoramic views from the heights over the plains and foothills of the Cévennes. The starting point in Souvignargues can be reached via the D22; the Parking de la Mairie is recommended for parking.

The “Balade entre Souvignargues et Fontanès” follows marked paths through fields and garrigue.
