Culture and History
The Église Saint Jean is located in the centre of Saint-Privat-des-Vieux. It is a Romanesque church dating from the 12th century. During the Camisard War, it was set on fire by the troops of the Camisard leader Jean Cavalier on the night of 23–24 December 1702. During renovation work, two burial vessels dating from the 12th century were discovered: one inside the church and one outside by the road.
From the end of the Neolithic period (2500/2200 BC), three sites in Saint-Privat-des-Vieux were used by people: the caves of Avène and Montgrand, as well as a pastoral refuge at Usclade. Archaeological finds from the sites are currently on display at the Musée du Colombier in Alès.
Leisure
The Parc Intergénérationnel is a publicly accessible leisure facility of more than one hectare in the town centre, surrounded by landscaped grounds with trees. The park has a pump track suitable for riders of all ages. The Parc Intergénérationnel is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
