History and Culture

The Tour Carbonnière is a medieval observation tower from the 13th century that served as an advanced post on the only land route to the medieval town of Aigues-Mortes and its salt works. Its terrace has information panels and offers a viewpoint over the marshland; visitors can observe wetland birds as well as Camargue horses and bulls there. On 19 February and 29 October 2026, free one-hour guided tours with a costumed guide will be offered at this tower; reservations are required.

The Fort de Peccais is a royal fortification from the 16th century that served to monitor and protect salt harvesting and the salt trade. Access to the interior is closed to the public; however, the remains can be viewed from a footpath with an information panel.

The Château de Calvières is a private 14th-century estate and cannot be visited. However, its façade can be seen from the village square or Boulevard Alexandra David-Néel. The 4-hectare park, visible from the road, is home to numerous rare Mediterranean plant species.
