History in the Village
Le Four Banal is located in the centre of the village of Saint-Jean-de-Ceyrargues. It was originally a wood-fired oven that the lord made available to the inhabitants. In earlier times, the inhabitants prepared their bread and baked it in the communal oven. Le Four Banal is lit again every year during the village festival and also serves as a cultural and festive venue. Behind the building was a tiny prison where drunkards and vagrants could spend the night.
The Anna and Sophie springs were used in Saint-Jean-de-Ceyrargues from shallow wells. The water there had been known since the mid-19th century and was associated with the same healing properties as the water of Euzet.
