The Avène River crosses Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas from north to south. Within the municipality, the Avène flows into the Gardon d’Alès.

Culture and History

The Église de Saint Hilaire de Brethmas was built in the 12th century and has been listed as a Monument historique since 28 June 1963.

Le Château à Saint-Hilaire-de-Brethmas is not a medieval fortress, but a manor house built around 1880. The Chapelle Sainte Thérèse in La Jasse de Bernard was built in 1934 and dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. The Four à chaux de Tribies is an old lime kiln of the intermittent long-flame type.

Events

Duos nocturnes has taken place every April since 2015 and is a pairs race held at nightfall. The event follows a 14 km out-and-back route between Saint-Hilaire and Vézénobres.

The Critérium des Cévennes historiques is a car rally organised every May since 2015 by Cévennes Alpine Gordini and the municipality in the area of Saint-Hilaire.

The Fête votive takes place every year and celebrates Provençal bullfighting culture. The Salon des arts is an annual exhibition held in November at the Gymnase and the Salle Louis Benoit, featuring painting, sculpture and literature.

La Saint-Hilairoise is an annual cycling, mountain biking and hiking event; more than 1,000 people took part on 30 March 2025.
