Culture and history
The Pyramide was classified as a historic monument on 7 April 1939; its protected area covers 500 metres. The obelisk, also called the Pyramide, was erected in 1777 in honour of Monseigneur de Beauteville and commemorates the conversion of the steep paths between Montpellier, Alès and Anduze into roads suitable for vehicles.
The Église Saint Christophe was built in 1668 on the site of an earlier Romanesque church, burned down by the Camisards in 1702 and rebuilt in its present form in 1842 in a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic styles. The Stèle du Rouret commemorates the Battle of Mas Cauvy, which took place on 24 December 1702 and is described as the first significant victory of the Camisards.
