Saint-Alexandre: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Saint-Alexandre is situated on a rounded hill with gentle slopes and has a circular village layout as well as a historic centre with narrow lanes. When planning your own trip, you may wish to focus on renting a holiday apartment in Saint-Alexandre.

Culture and History

The Romanesque church of Saint-Alexandre was built in the 12th century. It has three naves, an apsidal semi-dome and a dome. Its façade features a terracotta statue of Saint Alexander, the patron saint of the village. The current bell tower dates from 1978 and was rebuilt after the previous tower was struck by lightning in 1964.

The Chapelle de la Vierge is the former castle chapel and now serves as the town hall of Saint-Alexandre. It contains a gilded Renaissance-style statue of the Virgin made of fig wood. The statue was rescued during the unrest and hidden in the false roof. The Château de Saint-Alexandre is also part of the local history: it served as a defensive stronghold and centre of local power; the ruling family lived there until the Revolution.

The Chapelle Saint-Joseph was built in 1840.
