Roquemaure: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

A fixed date in Roquemaure’s annual calendar is the Fête Annuelle de Saint-Joseph, held every year on the Sunday around 19 March.

Culture and History

The Collégiale St Jean-Baptiste et St Jean l’Evangéliste was built in the 14th century in the Southern Gothic style outside Roquemaure’s town walls, in the Jardin du Roi. It was initially a fortified church; its present-day bell tower is the former watchtower.

The Collégiale contains a Baroque organ. It was made in 1690 by the Frères Julien in Marseille from Caroline wood and is classified as a historic monument.

The Chapelle Saint-Joseph des Champs dates from the 12th century. The Prieuré de Truel is a former Romanesque chapel from the 12th century that can be viewed from the outside and is open to the public only during special events.

At the Château et mur des péagers, the 12th-century Tour Carrée and the Tour Ronde, also known as the Tour de la Reine, can still be seen. In Roquemaure itself, Wivisites offers self-guided heritage tours with engaging audio content on a smartphone, without requiring an app download.

Water and Nature

A canoe trip near Roquemaure follows the Rhône past the former harbour, the Tour Ronde, the Tour Carrée, the weir and the botanical garden, under the Pont de l’Ile de Miémart and onwards towards Parc Amazonia. It takes around two hours and, on request, can include a guided presentation of the town’s heritage with a qualified guide.

This provides an opportunity to discover the rich wildlife and plant life of the Rhône region in an area classified as a Natura 2000 site. Île de Miémart lies north of Roquemaure town centre; its banks are home to a species-rich riparian forest classified as a Natura 2000 site.

The Massif de Caderache features Mediterranean vegetation with Aleppo pines and holm oaks.

Cycling and Walks

The 815-kilometre ViaRhôna cycle route passes through Roquemaure. An alternative route is the Véloroute des Chartreux – 3055, which runs from Roquemaure to Villeneuve lez Avignon through vineyards, garrigue and orchards.

The La Côte du Rhône – 54 cycle route passes through Île de Miémart, Roquemaure, Pujaut and the hamlet of Four à Sauveterre. Balade & Découverte – Le plateau des vignerons is a walk through the village of Roquemaure and its wine-growing area.

Family and Wine

Le Mas de la Gallinière is a farm offering animal encounters and educational activities in Roquemaure, with more than 400 animals. It offers, among other things, children’s holiday stays, day courses, birthday events, monthly family activities, as well as school and extracurricular outings.
