Redessan is located along the Via Domitia between Nemausus (Nîmes) and Ugernum (Beaucaire). At the municipal boundary between Redessan and Jonquières stands the ninth milestone, bearing the name “Pierre di novi” (“Stone of the Betrothed”). In the Flandin district, within the territory of Redessan, another milestone still stands.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Redessan is located on Place de l’Église. Its façade is designed in the neo-Romanesque style, while the bell tower is polygonal. The present church was rebuilt in 1850 on the site of an earlier church building.
The Festival de Cinéma Argentique is also part of the town’s cultural life: at its twelfth edition, classic films were shown outdoors on 35 mm film.
Landscape
Agriculture in Redessan includes vineyards, orchards, olive groves and vegetable cultivation. The agricultural landscape covers more than 1,300 ha. Vineyards account for 36% and meadows for 20% of this landscape. The “Le Cellier du Bondavin” cooperative winery vinifies between 25,000 and 35,000 hl each year.
Parks
The Parc de la Fontaine on Chemin du Stade has a secure playground for children aged 3 to 8. The Parc de la Fontaine also has tables available for picnics.
The Parc de l’Eau on Chemin du Mas de l’Avocat covers more than 10,000 m². There is a Capitelle in the park; the Parc de l’Eau also includes a large labyrinth.
