History

The Chapelle Saint-Martin-de-Ribéris dates from the 11th century. The Chapelle Saint-Maur was rebuilt in the 19th century. The church of Montfaucon, dating from 1841, contains baptismal fonts from Roman times. The present-day Chapelle Saint-Martin, formerly St-Martin-des-Ribiers, is the oldest building in the municipality of Montfaucon.

The Site d'escalade de Montfaucon climbing area comprises 20 equipped climbing routes. The Site d'escalade de Montfaucon overlooks the riverbanks and the Rhône plain. A viewpoint on Colline Saint-Maur offers a 360-degree panoramic view over the Gard rhodanien and Vaucluse.

Wine

Montfaucon is one of the nine original communes of the Côte du Rhône. In Montfaucon, all three colours of the renowned Lirac cru are produced in particular.

The Domaine Château de Montfaucon sells Côtes du Rhône wines in a tasting cellar and has wine cellars beneath 16th-century vaulted ceilings. The Domaine Château de Montfaucon also offers wine tastings and immersive tours focusing on history, unique architecture and the wines.

Events

The Fête de la Fraise took place in Montfaucon for the third time in 2026, following the 2025 edition. As part of the Fête de la Fraise 2026, a guided tour of Montfaucon’s old village was planned. The Fête de la Fraise 2026 also included a market featuring local producers and craftspeople.
