Générac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Générac lies south of Nîmes in the natural landscape of the Costières. The Chemin de Régordane, also known as the Chemin de Saint-Gilles and GR700, is the historic section of a route that linked Île-de-France with the Bas-Languedoc; in the Camargue area, the section runs from Générac to Saint-Gilles.

Nature and Trails

The section of the Entre Vignes et Rizières route between Générac and Franquevaux offers views of the region’s best-known landforms and the ponds of the Camargue. Along the route, visitors encounter a diverse range of local fauna and flora, particularly in the Scamandre nature reserve.

Culture and History

The Château de Générac is traditionally dated to the 11th century. A large main building and two round towers at the eastern corners have been preserved. The Salle du Temple, one of the rooms in the Château de Générac, houses the Musée de la Tonnellerie. The museum was inaugurated in April 1995 during the traditional Fête de la Souche.

The Church of Notre-Dame de l’Immaculée Conception de Générac was built between 1857 and 1860 by the architect Révoil. The apse vault in the choir is decorated with paintings that were uncovered during restoration work.

The empègues in Générac’s town centre are stencil drawings on the doors of houses announcing the annual votive festival. The Générac winegrowers’ cooperative building was constructed in 1927 by Henri Floutier; the cooperative is now called Costières et Soleil.

Wine and Market

Château de Valcombe is a family-run winery in Générac that has existed since 1740, in the heart of the Costières de Nîmes. The Château de Valcombe Discovery Pack includes a guided tasting of four signature cuvées. Every week, Château de Valcombe offers, by reservation, a tasting of one of its cuvées paired with a dish.

Générac’s open-air market takes place every Friday morning on Place Franck Chesneau. The market offers meat, cured meats, prepared dishes, fish, cheese, and fruit and vegetables.
