Fournes: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture and history

According to experts, the Chapelle Saint-Pierre de Fournès was built no later than the 11th century. Its rectangular floor plan transitions into a semicircular apse in the east. According to local tradition, the chapel commemorates a victory over the Saracens won in 736 by Charles Martel or one of his lieutenants in the plains of Meynes and Sernhac.

The present-day church of Fournès dates from 1836. It has a freestanding, octagonal bell tower with a wrought-iron structure.

The Château de Beaucaire, a castle, is located in the vicinity of Fournès.

Nature and trails

The Les Fosses de Fournès circular trail is moderately difficult, 5.9 kilometres long and takes around two hours. The trail is marked with yellow signs and signposts belonging to the local trail network. Les Fosses de Fournès feature a dry landscape characterised by ravines and basins, with rock pinnacles ranging from ten to thirty metres in height; the highest of these rock pinnacles is named La Mourre de Pitaraçon.
