Cros: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Cros lies in the valley of the Haut Vidourle. Below Cros, the Vidourle disappears underground. The small Cévennes municipality is associated with the national park. Anyone choosing Cros as a holiday destination may wish to find a holiday apartment there.

Nature and Trails

Cros currently has three municipal hiking trails, which are cleared and marked by the municipal team. The Boucle de l’eau route passes through the river landscape of Cros and focuses on the underground water in the karst caves and galleries there.

The L’Ubac et la roche des filles route runs along the shaded side of the Haut-Vidourle valley over Mount La Fage, which rises to 931 m. The Roche des filles viewpoint offers a panorama of the Jumelles de Saint Chamant and as far as the hamlet of La Rouvière.

The De la mairie à l’église de Cros route conveys the eventful religious history of the Cévennes, which has been shaped by the opposition between Protestants and Catholics since the Reformation in the 16th century. The Cros Silk Route is a very easy circular trail measuring 2.1 km, with a walking time of 1 hour 30 minutes and yellow trail markings. Cros is considered a place suitable for swimming.

Culture

The Romanesque Church of Saint Vincent in Cros dates from the 12th century. Today, services are held there only occasionally.

History and Crafts

The Moulin des Arnaudes mill still has millstones engraved with the year 1716. The first floor housed a large magnanerie, a room for raising silkworms, which was used until the 20th century.

The terraces of Mas Bourguet are built from dry stone without mortar. Staircases are incorporated into the retaining walls of the terraces, allowing people to move from one terrace to the next.

The Perrier silk mill in Cros was built in 1847 and closed in the 1920s. On the Silk Route, a small house known as an Oustalet served as accommodation for mainly Italian women workers who were involved in raising silkworms, collecting mulberry leaves and reeling the cocoons.

Since summer 2021, visitors to Cros have had the opportunity to visit a market offering regional products.
