Colognac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Colognac is one of the municipalities in the area included in the Cévennes National Park. The Colognac plateau offers panoramic views stretching from Cap d’Agde to Mont Blanc. Those choosing Colognac as a destination can combine their stay with plans to rent a holiday apartment there.
Culture and History
Shortly after the Edict of Nantes was proclaimed in 1598, Colognac’s first temple was built near the village square. In 1804, the church in Colognac was returned to Protestant worship. The temple was renovated in 1844 and 1999 to accommodate various cultural events, and it is accessible to people with disabilities.
The Moulin de la Mouleyrette is also part of the village’s history. It is a very old watermill on the slope, a few dozen metres below the road from Colognac to the Col du Rédarès, on the banks of the Coulègne. It was probably built between 1586 and 1596. The Moulin de la Mouleyrette is a grain mill for wheat, rye and barley with two roudets that drive the millstones directly.
Nature and Trails
The area around the Col des Fosses is characterised by beautiful mixed pine and oak forests and is particularly suitable for a walk in autumn. The still-visible faïsses and béals show how people have shaped Colognac’s terrain over the centuries. Livestock farming maintains Colognac’s landscape and preserves the tradition of transhumance.
The “Carré de soie” interpretive trail partly follows the former draille between Colognac and Lasalle. It recalls how young women used this route to travel to the silk spinning mills in Lasalle. “Un balcon vert sur la garrigue” is a themed interpretive trail for discovering Colognac as a land of traditions and rebellions.
Cycling Routes
The challenging “Boucle cyclo-découverte l’Echappée Cévenole” circular cycling route passes through Colognac and is 43.8 km long. The third stage of the four-day cycling tour “Le tour du mont Aigoual en 4 jours” also passes through Colognac. This stage is a moderately difficult 78.3 km road cycling route.
