Collias lies on the Gardon and has a bathing area, pebble beaches and an unsupervised bathing spot. From the bridge over the Gardon, there is a view of pebble banks and steep slopes.

Those who choose Collias on the left bank of the Gardon as a holiday destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Nature

Collias provides access to the Gorges du Gardon, which have been recognised by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. The village is part of the classified Gorges du Gardon area, which follows the Gardon River, and is one of the 26 municipalities within the Gorges du Gardon Biosphere Reserve.

The L’Ermitage de Collias route runs along the riverbank vegetation of the Ermitage beside the Gardon. The circular L’Ermitage de Collias hike is of moderate difficulty, 6.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Water and Activities

Several canoe routes start in Collias and pass under the arches of the Pont du Gard. The canoeing and kayaking activity offered by Kayak Vert Pont du Gard follows the Gardon from Collias to the Pont du Gard. Kayak Vert Pont du Gard also offers canoe and kayak routes from 8 to 30 kilometres long, lasting one or two days depending on the season.

The Collias via ferrata is accessible to beginners; technical equipment is provided. It includes ladders, a suspension bridge, two zip lines and a 40-metre-long abseiling section.

Culture and History

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Laval was built in the 12th century on the ruins of a Gallo-Roman temple. A spring emerges on the site; near the chapel is a grotto that was formerly inhabited by hermits. The entire site is classified.

The Grotte des Colonnes is located in Collias, in the L’Ermitage and les Costettes area. It is associated with the Middle Palaeolithic, Upper Palaeolithic and Antiquity, and has been classified as a historic monument by decree since 24 August 1931.

The Eglise Saint-Vincent de Collias was built on the site of an earlier Romanesque chapel; construction work was completed in December 1867.

Discover

The Maison du Castor is an educational and entertaining venue for visitors and an interactive discovery centre focusing on the Gorges du Gardon, its biodiversity, history and heritage, as well as the beaver and the Gardon River. It includes an educational area, a relaxation area and an open-air theatre. The exhibitions feature a giant beaver, models, a diorama, a slide and digital tablets.
