Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Chamborigaud can choose this place as a destination in its own right.

History and trails

The historic Chemin de Régordane crosses Chamborigaud from one end to the other. Initially known as the “Chemin de Saint-Gilles”, it served as a pilgrimage route between Le Puy-en-Velay and the Abbey of Saint-Gilles. In Chamborigaud, the trail follows the Luech and the Ribeyrette stream before ascending out of the valley towards the Col de Portes.

Landscape and hiking

The hike to the Pic de la Tourette is difficult, follows a circular route, is 17.4 kilometres long, and takes around seven hours. The Pic de la Tourette is located at an altitude of 914 metres and offers expansive views over the Cévennes in Gard and Lozère, the foothills of the Cévennes, and the plain as far as the coast; there are orientation tables at the summit.

The circular hiking trail to the Pic de la Tourette begins and ends in Chamborigaud and passes the ruins of the Château de Verfeuil, which resembles the typical castra of Languedoc dating from the period between the 10th and 15th centuries. The hike can be reached by public transport; the Génolhac–Chamborigaud TER connection goes to Chamborigaud station.

Tradition and art

In autumn, the tradition of the “afachada”, the roasting of chestnuts, continues in Chamborigaud. The sculpture by Jean Marc Scotti is called “Cévennes” and was created as a tribute to the solidarity and courage of underground miners and their families.
