Saint-Hilaire: Holiday Apartments and Houses

The Abbey of Saint-Hilaire is open for visits every day, including weekends and public holidays. Guided tours of the abbey are available by reservation and last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Culture

The medieval enclosure surrounding the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire dates back to the 14th century and has been preserved. It features loopholes on Rue Haute du Fort and at the Rampe des Rosiers. The association “Les Amis de l’Abbaye de Saint-Hilaire” regularly organises mainly classical concerts in the abbey church or cloister.

Nature

Several footpaths run around the Abbey of Saint-Hilaire. The “Coup de projecteur sur le fort” walking route is marked with a yellow line and a green circle.

A large part of the municipality of Saint-Hilaire is occupied by the Crausse-Rabassié state forest. The Lauquet flows through Saint-Hilaire along tree-lined banks.

Culinary Specialities

The monks of Saint-Hilaire invented Blanquette de Limoux in 1531. The original Blanquette de Limoux is now known as “Blanquette Méthode Ancestrale” and is made from the single Mauzac grape variety.
