Culture and history

The First World War memorial is located on the Route d’Axat in Montfort-sur-Boulzane. It consists of a granite obelisk with a bronze imitation statue, bronze appliqués and marble inscription panels.

The local history includes the former castle Castrum de Montefortis, which stood above the village at the site of Le Roc d’Al Casteillas. The castle was destroyed in 1496 during the war with Spain; only a few traces of its walls and the old village remain. The manor house was built after the destruction of the castle and is located in the village centre.

The village church is a 19th-century building. It contains a marble holy-water stoup with a sculpture of a hybrid creature that is half lion and half salamander. The spring Source de la Canelle is also located in the village centre; its water is considered to have healing properties.
