History

The Church of Saint-Etienne in Mas-des-Cours is documented as early as 1269. It was rebuilt in the first quarter of the 14th century; the southern chapel in the nave was built in 1762.

The Pont sur la Lauquette lies between the village of Mas-des-Cours and the Church of Saint-Etienne. It was registered as a historic monument by decree of 29 November 1948; it also has two round-arched openings.

The former Château-fort des Cours was built by the Templars in the 12th century and later belonged to the Order of Malta. Mas-des-Cours is home to the registered site “Ruines du château et berges du Lauquet”, comprising the castle ruins and the banks of the Lauquet. The village is also home to the castle ruins of the Château des Cours, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries.

Nature

Part of Mas-des-Cours lies within the “Corbières occidentales” Natura 2000 site. This is a designated special protection area for birds with the code FR 9112027.

In the Aude department near Carcassonne lies Belle Lurette, a family-run artisanal donkey farm. In its own soap workshop, Belle Lurette makes its soaps and cosmetics by hand.
