Culture and history
The landscape of Lespinassière has been shaped by dry-stone terraces for centuries. Kilometres of dry-stone walls were also built in the village to retain soil and grow essential plants.
Local traditions are also part of the cultural heritage: in Lespinassière, the fairy or witch Saurimonde is known as “Salvachuno”, the Wild One. The stairwell of the town hall also displays figures made by Jean-François Hébraud depicting the production of Triaque.
Inside the parish church of Lespinassière, monumental painting, sculpture and stained glass combine with the simplified forms and right angles of the Art Deco repertoire. Notre-Dame de la Nativité is open to the public and for tourist visits every day.
Nature
The landscape includes the Crête rocheuse de la Bourrasse. Its slopes are covered by forests and conifer plantations; the ridge and upper slopes feature more or less rocky grasslands, rocks, heathland and fringe communities.
The dry grasslands and rocky areas of the Crête rocheuse de la Bourrasse are home to characteristic flora, including the rare and protected modest sandwort (Arenaria modesta).
