In Lastours, the ruins of the four castles are protected as historic monuments. The Châteaux de Lastours complex comprises Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine and Quertinheux.
History
Cabaret has been inhabited since prehistoric times. This is evidenced by a grave from the Early Bronze Age in a cave below Quertinheux Castle. Between the late 12th and late 13th centuries, Cabaret was also an important centre of Catharism.
The archaeological exhibition “Lastours, 4000 ans d'histoire” presents 250 objects covering more than 4,000 years of history. The Châteaux de Lastours site also includes the exhibition “Lastours, des mondes à découvrir”, which focuses on geology, botany and zoology. The archaeological visit to the Castrum de Cabaret includes a visit to a forge.
Paths
The Belvédère is located around 200 metres from the ticket office and can be reached via a path accessible to all visitors. The easily accessible Belvédère allows people who do not wish to take the tour through the castles to view them from a distance.
Les Sentinelles de l’Orbiel follows a former work route that now serves as a hiking trail to the Belvédère.

In the vicinity of Lastours are Château Comtal and the historic site of Abbaye Saint-Pierre à Montolieu. The peaks Plateau du Sambrès, le Poumaïrol and Pic de Nore are also located nearby.
