In Cuxac-d’Aude, documentation of the Saint-Martin church dates back to 993. Its main construction phases took place in the 12th, 13th, 14th and 18th centuries; parts of it are classified as a historic monument, while other parts are listed as a historic monument.

Culture and history

Further historical evidence can be found in the Notre-Dame de Magri chapel, which was built in the 13th century and initially belonged to the Knights of Rhodes and later to the Knights of Malta. The Chapel of the White Penitents was built at the end of the 16th century and served both religious and secular purposes.

Other notable architectural features include the restored icehouses on Pech Carrétou in the Les Olivettes district. They date from the 18th century and comprise two rooms in which ice from Pic de Nore was stored.

Routes and discoveries

The Chemin de Mémoire runs through the streets of the town and is intended for local residents as well as passing tourists. Signs in French and Occitan accompany the route; photographs or maps illustrate the individual sites. Each sign also bears a QR code that passing visitors can use to access more detailed information.

The Tour des Digues hiking trail is 6.2 kilometres long and has an elevation difference of 25 metres. Cuxac-d’Aude also has four possible circular hiking routes.

For cycling tours, a 3.7-kilometre-long Voie Verte cycle path connects Cuxac-d’Aude and Sallèles-d’Aude from the Pont des Lavandières to the Gailhousty lock.

Wine and gastronomy

At Rue de la Croix Blanche, Chais Cuxac offers a guided tasting of wines from its range. The cooperative winery of Cuxac-d’Aude belongs to Les Celliers du Soleil, is considered part of the municipality’s cultural heritage and was founded in 1935.

The La Douce France restaurant in Cuxac-d’Aude is a training restaurant. It offers a buffet of starters and desserts as well as a hot dish, prepared and served by people with mild disabilities.
