Coustouge: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Coustouge is a circular village of medieval origin. It preserves a central square and picturesque streets. This village setting is home to the Église de la Sainte-Vierge, a simple Romanesque church dating from the 12th century.

Culture

The Musée de Coustouge displays marine fauna fossils from the Jurassic and Eocene periods. It also includes nine display cases covering the civilisations that succeeded one another in this region of the Corbières from the Neolithic period to the Middle Ages. The Musée de Coustouge can be visited by appointment.

The Maison de l’Ormeau is the cultural and festive centre of Coustouge. The village is also located on the Corbières and Fitou wine route.

At Pâquettes, the Easter Monday meal at the Fontaine fraîche, the first communal outdoor meal of the year takes place when the weather is suitable. At the Pâquettes meal on Easter Monday, a large omelette is prepared with wild asparagus and eggs brought by the participants.

Landscape

The Coustouge stratigraphic outcrop can be reached via the D323 towards Jonquières; the car is parked approximately 500 metres after leaving the village, before kilometre marker 0.4. At this outcrop, depositional environments of a prodelta area, a delta front and coastal bars can be identified. The Coustouge stratigraphic outcrop is suitable for field trips.

The Albas–Jonquières–Coustouge hiking route follows the same stretch as the Ronde au Cœur des Corbières in the opposite direction as far as Coustouge. The Espace VTT-FFC Corbières-Minervois, Circuit No. 2, “Between vineyards and mills”, leads to Coustouge via the D323 after a winding descent from the Bergerie de Poursan.

The Fontaine fraîche is located on the banks of the Robine below Coustouge, beneath large plane trees in a secluded, peaceful and relaxing spot. A natural spring with clear, cool water flows there all year round. The Fontaine fraîche can be reached via a concrete footbridge crossing the Robine.

The Promenade des Trois Quilles begins at the Fontaine fraîche. From the Trois Quilles, the view extends over Coustouge, its vineyards and as far as Mont Alaric. The Trois Quilles, built from dry stone, are considered evidence of Coustouge’s pastoral past.
