Culture and History
The origins of the Domaine de Mauvoisin date back to the 12th century. At that time, Raoul de Mauvoisin, Lord of Rosny, had a château built there with several outbuildings, including a farm, a prison and dungeons. The Domaine de Mauvoisin also includes a dovecote built in the 18th century.
The Church of Saint-Léger preserves several historical features. Its bronze bell dates from 1771 and is protected as a movable historic monument. The limestone church building was constructed in the 13th and 16th centuries; the bell tower was rebuilt in 1868. A Romanesque entrance portal is decorated with star- and zigzag-patterned archivolts. Inside, Saint-Léger has a rectangular nave with a side aisle on the north side, three tracery windows and 19th-century stained-glass windows depicting the four Evangelists.
The historic villagescape also includes the Priory of the Holy Trinity in Lommoye. It was a dependency of the Abbey of Bec-Hellouin and was destroyed during the French Revolution.
Nature and Landscape
The source area of the Ru de Bonnières-sur-Seine lies in Lommoye and La Villeneuve-en-Chevrie. A flowing section of this watercourse was observed at the bridge site on Rue Paster in Lommoye.
The fringe of the Forêt de Rosny extends into Lommoye, La Villeneuve-en-Chevrie and Boissy-Mauvoisin. Some wooded areas extend the large natural area across the plateau, while the forested massif shapes the horizon. The agricultural areas also have a strong presence of the Little Owl (Athene noctua). Lommoye is also home to the region's largest maternity roost of Geoffroy's bat (Myotis emarginatus) with fringed ears in the Île-de-France region.
In the wider regional surroundings of Lommoye, the Natura 2000 site “Boucles de Moisson, Guernes et forêt de Rosny” stretches between the Seine Valley and the Lommoye Plateau. It consists of three landscape units.
Things to Do
In the Forêt régionale de Rosny, visitors can see the Kiosque de Rosny, the remains of the Château des Beurons and the Chêne Mademoiselle oak. The Forêt régionale de Rosny can be explored via numerous footpaths.
Lommoye also has its own cultural venue, the Ferme Théâtre Chapiteau. There, the Compagnie Étincelle Bouillasse offers performances, parades, as well as training in clown techniques and theatre.
