The Ouvrage de Meroux was built between 1908 and 1913 to reinforce the defensive line between Fort de Vézelois and the Ouvrage des Fougerais. The present-day Saint-Nicolas Church in Meroux was built around 1885 using reused materials from the former church. Its furnishings include a gilded wooden tabernacle and a carved pulpit dated 1920.
