Culture
The first church in Sillery was built in the Middle Ages, around the year 1100. At the Church of Saint-Rémi in Sillery, visitors can view the restored communion rail door, which was reinstalled in 2011. It forms part of the Art Deco heritage of the reconstruction.
History
The Sillery National Necropolis contains the remains of almost 12,000 French soldiers who lost their lives in the fighting to defend Reims between September 1914 and autumn 1918. A monument there commemorates the soldiers of the 97th Territorial Infantry Division who lost their lives in the fighting at Sillery on 19 and 20 October 1915. The necropolis also includes a mausoleum chapel for soldiers without graves from the battles of Champagne between 1914 and 1918. The Sillery National Necropolis can be visited year-round as part of self-guided visits.
