Culture and History
The “Au fil de l’histoire” urban trail leads through the history and cultural heritage of Sézanne with 18 steles and information panels. In the historic centre, paved streets and lanes, half-timbered houses, stone façades, fountains and old draw wells shape the townscape.
One of the town’s distinctive buildings is the Église Saint-Denis in Sézanne. It is a listed building in the Flamboyant Gothic style; its square tower is 42 metres high. The Mails are former medieval fortifications that were filled in during the 18th century. Today, they are planted with lime trees and form part of a tree-lined promenade.
The old town of Sézanne is also home to the gallery of the sculptor Alain Choisnet. It displays his bronze sculptures and offers personalised tours by appointment.
Nature and Trails
The Limonière nature area is a 97-hectare Natura 2000 woodland area with ponds, acidic heathland and remarkable biodiversity. The Sentier de la Limonière is a 4.5-kilometre trail that starts in Sézanne or Vindey.
