Saint-Imoges: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Culture and history

The Notre-Dame-du-Chêne church was built in 1508 on the ruins of an earlier church. The parish church houses a 13th-century statue of the Miraculous Virgin, which was discovered in a niche set into the trunk of an oak tree.

The carillon of the Notre-Dame-du-Chêne church dates from 1842; it is considered unique in Champagne-Ardenne and is listed as a historic monument. A church window depicts the portraits of nine local soldiers who died in the First World War from 1914 to 1918.

The British military cemetery in the Saint-Imoges municipal cemetery contains the graves of 77 British soldiers, including one unknown soldier. The French military cemetery immediately adjacent contains the graves of 21 French soldiers who were killed during the same period. Saint-Imoges also has a restored brick washhouse with a triple arcade and a blue-stone basin.

The Briqueterie du Vertin is a historic terracotta industry site in the forests of Saint-Imoges and was founded in 1869. A Hoffmann kiln and a brick chimney are still visible on the site today.

The site of Château de Vernay lies in the forest between Germaine and Saint-Imoges. The water-filled moats and the island on which the former castle stood are still visible.

Nature and forest

The Chêne à la Vierge state forest near Saint-Imoges has been awarded the “Forêt d’Exception” designation. Deciduous forests, wetlands, ponds, shrubland and hay meadows have developed on the site of the Briqueterie du Vertin.

Walking trails

The Chêne à la Vierge state forest has avenues, signposted paths and botanical nature trails that invite visitors to go for walks. The “Circuit à la Recherche du temps passé” circular route begins at Place Notre-Dame-du-Chêne and is 1.8 km long; the walking time is approximately 30 minutes.

The free “Le Secret du chêne à la vierge” application describes a 3.6 km route with a duration of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
