Mareuil-Sur-Ay: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mareuil-Sur-Ay combines buildings from several periods with the Château de Mareuil-sur-Ay and a wine-growing landscape along the Marne. The Église Saint-Hilaire was built in phases dating from the late 11th century, the 12th century and the 16th century. The tower and spire of the Église Saint-Hilaire were classified as historic monuments by decree of 2 March 1933.

Culture and History

The Château de Mareuil-sur-Ay was built between 1771 and 1774 according to plans by the architect Chevotet and completed by Chaussard. The Château de Mareuil-sur-Ay complex was partially listed as a historic monument on 5 November 2003; the protection includes, among other things, the park with underground structures and an ice house, the outbuildings, the entrance pavilions, the two walled kitchen gardens and the orangery.

The Friends of Notre-Dame du Gruguet association organises a torchlight procession every year on 15 August.

Paths and Landscape

At Clos des Goisses, the vineyards are reflected in the Marne, forming the shape of a Champagne bottle. A cycle route connects the three municipalities of Aÿ-Champagne.

The “Balade les Bulles de Mareuil” walking route is 1.2 kilometres long and takes about one hour. The “Le Parc au fil de l’eau” discovery trail is listed for Mareuil-sur-Ay with a length of 28 kilometres. The Véloroute de la Vallée de la Marne is listed for Mareuil-sur-Ay as a 90-kilometre route.
