Rocroi is a fortified town whose layout appears like a stone star. Anyone choosing Rocroi as a travel destination may want to rent a holiday apartment there.

Culture

Several buildings give the townscape a clearly recognizable historical character: the Church of Saint-Nicolas dates from 1844, while the oldest house on Place d’Armes bears the year 1676. The former military hospital of Rocroi was built in 1691.

The Musée de la Bataille de Rocroy presents the victory of the Grand Condé over the Spanish on 19 May 1643, as well as the movements of the troops. The museum is located in a former 17th-century guardhouse. It can be visited as part of self-guided or guided tours; reservations are possible for groups.

Orientation

The cultural and historical tour through Rocroi begins at the Tourist Office and leads towards Place d’Armes. The Bastion de Montmorency features a viewpoint and an orientation board.

Rocroi is also located on the Route des Fortifications, a 570-kilometre route through the Ardennes that can be travelled by car, motorcycle or bicycle.

Nature

Rocroi is home to marshy habitats known as “rièzes”, with remarkable biodiversity. They are classified as unique Natura 2000 natural heritage.

The Fromage de Rocroy et ses dérivés business offers guided tours on request. The La Croix de Fer farm in Rocroi sells Rocroy cheese and other dairy products such as butter, cream cheese, milk, cream and Tomette.
